Serenity received a call from a very concerned lady in Arlington reporting that 5 horses were out in a pasture without food or water.  She had called Snohomish County Animal Control but was told that the horses were ok.  She disagreed and she and her family members continued to pursue a solution which included contacting us.
Animal Control eventually found the owner of the horses and he was told that his horses were on the neighbors property and that he needed to move them back next door.  However, moving back to the pasture next door was problematic. The house on the property was rented by a group of guys and there was allegedly a lot of drug activity.
Originally there were 6 horses out on the property.  On several occasions people driving by on the road above the farm reported to the Sheriff that the rentors (and their friends) were chasing the horses with their ATV's and trucks.  The horses were terrified.
One day a passerby watched as one of the guys in his jeep hit a mare and broke her neck. The mare died shortly thereafter.   Charges have been filed.
As the saga continued a member of a local rescue was called and she intervened convincing the owner to sell her three of the horses. Gina paid the owner $150 for the three horses that are now at Serenity.
The other two horses have been purchased by someone else and have gone on to their new homes.

Unfortunetly these horses have not been handled for years.  The colt has never been handled at all.  They were terrified of people and the trailer and getting them into the trailer and back to Serenity was a 9 hour ordeal.  The first five days were very hard on them.  Every time someone went into their paddock they huddled together and moved away.  However, after two weeks at Serenity we are able to pet and scratch the colt and rub Sugar's head.  We are looking forward to Gift II allowing us to touch her.
These wonderful horses are in pretty bad shape and need medical care.  Gift II is about 6 months pregnant and both she and Sugar are having problems eating.  They need their teeth floated badly.  The colt needs to be weaned as soon as possible so Gift II can give the new baby what it needs.  She also needs to be on suppliments.

They are all highly parasitic but we have been unable to worm them for fear the colt will get too much wormer.  So we are having to wait until we can separate him from his mom.  We are unable to do their feet at this time.

The vetrinary bills for the three horses are just beginning.  Shots, wormer, teeth, and Sugar needs to be gelded.  We have estimated that it will cost Serenity well over a thousand ($1000) dollars to get them on the road to recovery and we are in need of your help.
