We're so glad you've chosen to adopt from Serenity!

Our adoption goal at Serenity Equine Rescue is to give our horses the best chance of being placed with responsible, caring owners that are willing to give them a forever home. To help ensure that this happens the horses at Serenity are not offered for adoption until they are healthy and ready for a new home.

Each horse is evaluated by a veterinarian when they arrive and as a result a rehabilitation plan is developed that includes both their nutritional and medical needs.  All of the horses at Serenity are handled daily and are up-to-date on worming, shots, dental work, and hoof care. When you come to Serenity to look for your new companion you will find that our adoptable horses are healthy, friendly and trusting.

Our adoption fees are set based on a number of factors such as  breeding, training,  age etc. Adoption is by private treaty.

If you are interested in adopting one of our rescues, please complete the adoption form, send it to patricia@serenityequinerescue.com and we will contact you to make an appointment for a personal visit.

We are unable to take in any additional horses at this time. Serenity focuses our limited resources on cases of abuse and neglect.  We are unable to assist in the sale or re-homing of individual horses.  For tips on how to sell your horse, please click here.

Be sure you are familiar with our Adoption Process and requirements, we look forward to helping you find the horse you'll never forget.

ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS

Because we put a lot of time and resources into healing and helping our horses (and we value the donor dollars that fund our rescue) we do all we can to ensure healthy, safe, permanant homes for our rescues.

A few basic guidelines:

  • Be prepared to invest time and money into your new horse. Horses are very rewarding but can be expensive.

  • You must be 18 years of age to adopt.
    • If you are a parent adopting a horse for your child we welcome you and simply ask that you perform all adoption steps and communicate with us.

  • By policy, we do not place 'holds' on horses, the first qualified and prepared applicant will be approved.

  • We're looking for permanant placements. We do not adopt horses for the purposes of breeding and/or resale and our adopters sign a contract agreeing not to take the horse to auction.

  • We ask that horses go to a home with regular pasture/paddock turnout, safe fencing, and a hazard free man made shelter (trees don't count).

  • We cannot let our rescues go to a new home with
    • barb wire
    • debris or unsafe items in pasture
    • a lack of adequate shelter

  • We appreciate donations but we are unable to accept trades for our rescues (in lieu of paying an adoption fee).

  • We prefer cash or  money order for adoption fee, but will accept PayPal (PayPal fees will be added to adoption cost).

  • We may be able to deliver for a fee of $1 per mile to cover our mileage expenses, due prior to transport.

ADOPTION PROCESS

We work hard to make our Adoption Process a positive experience. Because our adoption staff are volunteers, we ask that you help us save their time (and yours!) by being preopared. Here are the steps to adopt:

1. Check out our available horses

2. Complete our application . We cannot process an incomplete application, please fill out all fields.

3. Email application to patricia@serenityequinerescue.com.

  • We invite you to include property photos to expedite  the process. If you live over 50 miles from our farm, current pictures of your facility are required.  Pictures must include shelter areas, stalls, turnout, and fences.

4. Your application will be reviewed and you will be contacted to let you know if you are preapproved.

5. At that  time we may make an appointment for you to come out to spend time with the horse so we can determine if you are a good fit for each other.

6. A site visit is performed before final approval.

7. Once approved, you pay your adoption fee and sign our legally binding adoption contract.

At this time the horse is formally adopted and may be transported to its new home.

Any horse unable to be taken directly to its new home at time of adoption (when the adoption fee is paid) can temporarily board at Serenity for a fee of $15 per day.  If the fee is not paid at the time of adoption, the fee is due when the horse is picked up or delivered. The boarding fee does not include veterinary care, hoof care or other incidental costs.

Feedback on our adoption process is welcome, please e-mail patricia@serenityequinerescue.com with your comments.
